# Connect an AI client

Add the Signable MCP server to your AI client, then log in to Signable to approve access. The setup steps depend on the AI client you use.

## Before you begin

Ensure you have:

- A Signable user on a company account with a verified company email address. Sub-accounts cannot connect.
- An AI client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in.
- The Signable MCP server URL:

```text
https://mcp.signable.app/mcp/signable
```

You do not need an API key or a client ID. Your AI client registers itself with Signable automatically when you connect.

## Set up your AI client

Claude Code
1. Add the Signable MCP server:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http signable https://mcp.signable.app/mcp/signable
```
2. Start Claude Code and run `/mcp`.
3. Select **signable**, then select **Authenticate**.
4. Log in to Signable in the browser window that opens.
5. Select **Authorise** to approve access.
6. Return to Claude Code. The Signable tools are now available.

By default, Claude Code adds the server for the current project only. To change this, add the `--scope` option:

- `--scope user` – Use the Signable MCP server in all your projects.
- `--scope project` – Share the server with everyone working on the project. Claude Code saves it to `.mcp.json` in the project root.

To add the server to `.mcp.json` yourself, use this configuration:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "signable": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.signable.app/mcp/signable"
    }
  }
}
```

Claude.ai
Custom connectors you add on claude.ai are also available in Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile apps.

1. In Claude, go to **Settings** → **Connectors**.
2. Select **Add**, then select **Add custom connector**.
3. Enter `Signable` as the name and `https://mcp.signable.app/mcp/signable` as the URL, then select **Add**.
4. Find **Signable** in your list of connectors and select **Connect**.
5. Log in to Signable and select **Authorise**.

If you cannot add a custom connector, ask your Claude organisation owner to add Signable for your team.

ChatGPT
1. In ChatGPT, go to **Settings** → **Plugins**.
2. Select **Add**, then select **Add MCP server**.
3. Enter `Signable` as the name and `https://mcp.signable.app/mcp/signable` as the URL. If you are asked for an authentication method, select **OAuth**.
4. Log in to Signable and select **Authorise**.

The Signable MCP server then appears under **MCPs** on the **Plugins** page.

If you cannot add an MCP server, ask your ChatGPT workspace admin.

Codex
The Codex CLI, the Codex IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share the same MCP configuration.

1. Add the Signable MCP server:

```bash
codex mcp add signable --url https://mcp.signable.app/mcp/signable
```
2. Log in to Signable:

```bash
codex mcp login signable
```
3. Log in to Signable in the browser window that opens and select **Authorise**.

To add the server to `~/.codex/config.toml` yourself, use this configuration:

```toml
[mcp_servers.signable]
url = "https://mcp.signable.app/mcp/signable"
```

Gemini app
1. Go to [gemini.google.com](https://gemini.google.com) and open **Settings**.
2. Go to **Connected Apps** → **Custom apps** and select **Add a custom app**.
3. Enter the Signable MCP server URL and select **Next**.
4. Log in to Signable and select **Authorise**.

Gemini CLI
1. Add the Signable MCP server:

```bash
gemini mcp add --transport http signable https://mcp.signable.app/mcp/signable
```
2. Start Gemini CLI and run `/mcp auth signable`.
3. Log in to Signable in the browser window that opens and select **Authorise**.

To add the server to `~/.gemini/settings.json` yourself, use this configuration:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "signable": {
      "httpUrl": "https://mcp.signable.app/mcp/signable"
    }
  }
}
```

## Approve access

When you connect, your AI client opens Signable in your browser:

1. Log in to Signable, if you are not already logged in. If your user has multi-factor authentication (MFA) set up, enter your code.
2. Review the request. The page shows the AI client that wants to access your Signable account, what data it can access and which actions it can perform if you approve.
3. Select **Authorise** to approve access, or **Cancel** to deny it.

Signable then returns you to your AI client.

## Check the connection

Ask your AI assistant a question about your account, for example:

```text
List my 5 most recent Signable envelopes.
```

## Disconnect Signable

To stop an AI client from accessing your Signable account, remove the Signable MCP server from the client:

| AI client | How to disconnect |
|  --- | --- |
| Claude Code | Run `claude mcp remove signable` |
| Claude.ai and Claude Desktop | Go to **Settings** → **Connectors** and remove **Signable** |
| ChatGPT | Go to **Settings** → **Plugins** → **MCPs** and remove **Signable** |
| Codex | Run `codex mcp remove signable` |
| Gemini app | Go to **Settings** → **Connected Apps** and remove **Signable** |
| Gemini CLI | Run `gemini mcp remove signable` |
